Louie: Comedy or Drama?

Louie, Louis C.K.'s creation being aired on FX, is simultaneously the funniest show on television and one of the darkest, but it is impossible to decide whether it is a comedy or drama. Louie started back in 2010, listed as a comedy, but by watching a few episodes of the show, you can barely tell. Sure, it makes you laugh, but the darkness and poignant reality inside Louis C.K.'s writing blurrs the line between the two genres. Playing a fictional version of himself in New York, Louis C.K. holds no punches in his stand-up perfomances that seperate chapters of the episodes, making you laugh initially about jokes that he instantly turns around into piercing comments about societal problems such as world hunger and wealth disparity. It definetly has a dramatic effect, but juxtaposed against his faux everyday life, Louis C.K. makes it impossible to classify his greatest work, putting Louie, as it should be, in a category of its own.
